"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze."

Screenplay

Angels in Ash

As a sophomore, I took the scriptwriting course technically intended for juniors and seniors. The class required we write a full-length (90 to 120 pages) motion picture script, a somewhat daunting task. However, the class turned out to be the best I ever took.

My screenplay, Angels in Ash, tells the story of a young German man and German-Jewish woman who fall in love just as World War II and the Holocaust are beginning in Europe. My first draft was 189 pages, but, through revision, I was able to get it down to 119. Although I had doubts along the way, I finished with a script I was satisfied with and actually proud of.

After the semester, I was able to meet with Hollywood producer Jim Wilberger, who generously gave me feedback about the script. With his help and notes, I am currently in the process of writing a third draft of my screenplay.

Argumentative Essay

"Abortion and Murder"

The first college-level writing class I took required the students to write an "Argument of Definition" essay. I chose to write my essay on abortion and the ongoing debate that abortion is murder. This is a topic I feel passionately about, and I spent a great deal of extra time researching and writing my paper.

I submitted my first draft, and, although my professor did not share my views on the subject, she helped me copiously and gave generous feedback on how I could improve my argument.

My professor was impressed with the final product. I was proud because I felt my dedication and hard work had paid off.
